Controlled Release for Microbial Applications
Thursday, July 29, 12pm - 4pm EDT
The use of controlled release science is essential to deliver, sustain, or control microbial systems in challenging environments. Microbes can serve as delivery vehicles, benefit from the protection of a controlled delivery system, respond to targeted nutrition, and inspire new formulations for delivery. This workshop will provide an introduction to the relationship between controlled release and microbial systems. A breadth of applications and approaches will be presented to provide insight into current challenges and solutions related to the use of microbes, such as probiotics and yeast, and control of relevant microbiomes. Applications for these technologies represented in this workshop include pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, food, cosmetics, and agricultural applications. An overview of research from leading academic groups will be presented with case studies from industrial participants, providing attendees with a broad foundation to understand common challenges and a variety of solutions from different perspectives.
